Religious organizations should find other ways of raising funds instead of depending on donations from the political leadership in the country, Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei now says.

In a statement on his X account on Sunday, March 16, 2025, senator Cherargei voiced support over a decision by the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) to prohibit political speeches within its places of worship.

"I fully support ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit on this. Places of worship should remain sacred, serving only for preaching, worship, and prayers, without politics, which could desecrate the altar. Politicians have numerous platforms to convey their messages, including events like baby showers and bridal showers," Cherargei stated.

He added that religious organizations should consider developing a structured and dignified approach to collecting contributions for building places of worship."

Archbishop Ole Sapit has stated that politicians will no longer be allowed to address congregants within church premises, adding that only their presence would be recognized.

Speaking yesterday, he noted that this directive would be strictly upheld in all Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) dioceses and churches.

This move is part of the church’s effort to keep religious spaces free from political influence.

Churches have frequently been used as platforms for political speeches, a trend that has sparked debate over the intersection of faith and politics.
